Redish pimple on the pubic (female) region.

Hi,

I am a female. I have never has sexual intercourse or been involved in any sexual activity at all. A few days ago while I was at work (I run a camp). I noticed my lower pubic mound region felt irritated and I could tell it was a pimple. This has happened somtimes before and I've just left it alone and it dissapeared. I think because I was wearing jeans that day it somehow irritated my skin some more. Later the next day when I would even sit down it would hurt slightly depending on how I sat.

I took a small mirror and looked at it, because I was worried, and it was a redish pimple on the lower pubic mound, just above the opening of the pubic lips. I do not understand why this happened seeing as I do not even shave down there. Could this be a hygiene issue? Is there any advise that can be given or should I just wait for it to go away?

HI,
This is a condition called folliculitis.Folliculitis is the inflammation of one or more hair follicles. The condition may occur anywhere on the skin.Folliculitis starts when hair follicles are damaged by friction from clothing, blockage of the follicle, shaving.
In most cases of folliculitis, the damaged follicles are then infected with the bacteria Staphylococcus (staph).
It presents as a pimples or pustules located around a hair follicle and associated with itching of the surrounding skin.
Topical antiseptic treatment is adequate for most cases or you could apply a topical antibiotic such as mupirocin ointment.
