Skin feels raw, but no rash

For years I've been having occasional episodes where small areas of my skin feel sore and tender. It tends to be on my torso somewhere, but I think I've experienced it on my upper legs and rear end as well.  Right now it's an area starting at my spine below my ribcage, and wrapping around my side to the front a bit. It's a sensation that my skin is raw, as if it's been scraped or carpet-burned.  Any contact with the area feels exactly as if I'm touching raw tender skin (probably less painful) and the discomfort seems to be just skin-deep.  There is never a rash or injury of any kind, and I can't trace it to any kind of lifestyle thing, activity, detergent, etc.  It's been going on for years, never lasts more than a few days, and is never more than mildly annoying.  It hasn't killed me yet, so I'm really not concerned that something's terribly wrong, but I'd like to know what it is and if anyone else has ever experienced it.

Hey,

Did you find out what is causing this??

I am having the same thing. Happens about once a month - sensitive patch of skin about the size of my palm, no rash or anything visual. Clears up after about 2-5 days.

This can happen with genital herpes... I am not saying anyone has it and hope you don't think I am being rude but these areas of bruised sensation and especially the cold toilet seat experience sounds extremely like it. Can be accompanied by general malaise too. Hope this helps.

Just finished a severe first case of genital herpes. It has finally cleared however I've been feeling a rug burn type sensation on the skin of my left arm above my elbow. Could that have anything to do with it? There is nothing visible in that area so its just strange why that specific patch is so irritating. I could live with it but its just such an annoying feeling. Any ideas?

Don't know of any way to prevent it I'm afraid but the patches of affected skin can be anywhere on your body. Last a few days then corrects. You can get fluey with a fever too. First outbreak is always the worst and then generally oT happens if run down - that is the good news! Good luck :)

It's amazing that so many people have this problem yet there is no answer. I think that I too suffer from this. It feels like a rash yet there is no redness or swelling. It's a very mild pain and only really hurts when I touch the affected area. Mine is always on one of my forearms. It doesn't show up much either. Usually only 1, 2 or 3 times a year. I sometimes think that maybe it's the way I slept because it often accompanies a bad night's sleep or when I awaken and have a numb arm from laying on it. The numbness goes away but the pain stays. I sure hope someone finds out what this is. So many people can't be imagining this.
