By tuggy do you mean tangled?
I damaged my hair years ago by using Sun-In (a college friend had used it years earlier and not had a problem so I tried it, which was a bad mistake). I recall it felt like there was maple syrup in my hair when I tried to brush it. Usually damaged hair should be cut. Maybe you can get a cute short cut and just grit your teeth and wait for it to grow. If you live in a cold climate, you can wear a hat alot if you don't like the cut you get, until it grows out a little ( I have done that!). I cut my hair and while I miss my nice curls, at least I can always brush or comb through it. Always use a wide-toothed comb on your wet hair. You can use it in the shower after combing conditioner through.
There are some conditioners that are better for damaged hair, Nexxus Humectress can help with detangling. Wen Sweet Almond Mint ReMoist Intensive Conditioning Treatment (it is thick and comes in a tub not a tube), or Aveda Reconstructing Conditioner (this may have a new name now as I don't have it here right now but used it alot in the past for my damaged hair) are both great for damaged hair. Also there are some detangling sprays which help alot. Actually, I used the Wen system exclusively for a while until I cut my hair because that was the only way to guarantee I could comb it out after washing. But the main thing is to cut it and wait for it to grow again. I also don't blow-dry my hair.
If you are relatively young, which I suspect you are, it would keep your hair healthier to just stick with the natural color. If you go gray in the future you can color it then, if that bothers you.
The new hair growth will be healthy in any case, since it has not been subjected to bleaching.
I would just get it cut and buy some vitamins for hair growth! I think it take a couple of months for the vitamins to start working, but i've heard they help a lot and i'm sure it would make your hair healthier too! Hope everything goes well!
You will have to wait until it grows out. I would cut it.
