Dry patch of skin on Upper Lip

Hi,
For the past 3 weeks I've had a visible red patch on the upper lip line, on the left side. I first noticed it 5 weeks ago but it was not yet clearly visible, at this point it only felt like a rough, bumpy patch of my lip. Shortly afterwards, I noticed I had a blackhead in that area, so I tried to get rid of it.
Ever since the patch has gone bigger, when I stretch the skin it looks like a mild burn with tiny dots covering it, and by now it is becoming dry and yellow.
I have never had a cold sore, and this patch never blistered, and has not itched any more than usual - only when I think about it too much! It also does not hurt, it's a strange sensation though, it feels numb and a little strange, like the feeling you get after you scratch your skin lightly.
I've tried blistex and it just made it red - the same colour as my lips. I've also been applying E45 but that has simply kept it moisturised.

Any ideas what it could be? I feel stupid going to the doctor's as it doesn't look like much, it's about the same size as a pencil eraser, half on my lip and half on the top of the lip line.

Thanks!
