Sudden appearance of dark spots

A couple changes have recently taken place in my life:

I've been under a lot of stress because of school
My period did not come on last month
I got a tetanus vaccination a little less than a month ago
I started working out in the gym

Those are the main things I can think of.  I'm worried because there has been a sudden appearance (about two weeks ago) of dry, dark, sometimes itchy spots on my belly and chest.  I've counted ten or so.  They are bruise-colored (dark brown/red) and range in size.  The largest on is about half an inch wide.  What are they?  I'm really scared to see a doctor because I don't know what he/she will tell me.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi

One differential I can think of here is pityriasis rosea .Pityriasis rosea is a self limiting disease condition. It is usually characterized by a herald patch which occurs about a week before the other circular lesions. They involve the trunk and extremities. The skin condition appears to be oval shaped, brownish red and may be differentiated from a fungal infection by a potassium hydroxide test or evaluation.

The cause may be unknown. This usually resolves spontaneously. As this is only a differential, I suggest that you have this assessed by your dermatologist.

Have you had fever or flulike symptoms prior to the onset of these spots?
