Vitiligo or not?

Hello,

I am a 15 year old male from the Netherlands and I have a question regarding my skin. I have some spots on my right cheek and a very little spot adjacent to my upper lip. I have had this for at least 5-6 years I'd say, and it keeps getting larger very slowly. The spots aren't as pale as a usual vitiligo spot, from what I've looked up on the internet. Here's the catch though: My father has vitiligo. I've heard that this disease is genetic so I'm afraid. I have 2 sisters and 1 brother, and I'm the only one with the spots. When I went to the doctor 2 months ago he said that he was almost sure that it isn't vitiligo but Pityriasis alba, because the spots on my cheek don't have very 'sharp' borders. Also, I don't have any white spots on my hands (like my father) or scrotum, just on my cheek, that was his reasoning. I however was skeptical. For 2 reasons : My father has vitiligo, so that sounds more logical, and also, I have had this for years now, while Pityriasis alba only lasts for a year maximum from what I've read on various sites. He gave me an ointment and it hasn't worked (in the instructions though, it said that it might take 3 months before you see results and I've been using it for little over 2 months now). From all of this : What do I probably have? Thanks in advance

Well yes, that it takes quite sometime in P.alba on the skin to become normal.
My good wishes.

Thanks for your reply, but is it possible to have  Pityriasis alba for half a decade? I'm going to my doctor in a couple of weeks and I'll update this post by then, but I'm afraid my doctor is a very unprofessional man. I'm 100% sure that it isn't photodermatitis though! I appreciate tge reply a lot!
