ezcema and the Mirena IUD

I had the Mirena fitted (which was the worst pain I have ever felt, my cervix went into shock and it wasn´t pleasant) I thought I could relax for a few years before getting worried about the removal.  My face is now covered in what i thought was acne but the doctor says it´s ezcema and has given me steroid cream.  I cant get rid of it, it´s affecting my self confidence, has anyone had a similar experience realted to the Mirena?  I think I should get it removed which isn´t a pleasant thought due to the problamatic insertion.

Hi,

Intra-uterine devices such as Mirena, are designed to provide contraception. Like all medication and medical devices, which are man-made, they do have some side-effects. Eczema, skin disorders and allergies may be caused by any such device.

The best course forward is to consult the doctor who diagnosed the eczema and the doctor who had advised and put the Mirena.

These are the people who can really help you understand the best possible course for you. For now, keep the faith and take the medications as prescribed.

Let us know if these answered your queries.

Best regards

hi

Well I had the Mirena fitted in England and then I moved to Spain where the eczema was diagnosed but Mirena is unheard of in Spain so they couldn´t advise me too well on that.  The doctors in England didn´t seem to have much idea of the side effects so I have just had the Mirena removed, I couldn´t see any other solution.  The removal was pretty painless and over in a few seconds which was a huge relief not the ordeal at all that I was expecting phewww!! Hopefully my skin will clear up and some of the other side effects, sore nipples and aching joints will dissapear.

thanks

Hi,

It is good that you feel better. however, please be advised that you should employ another contraceptive, if required.

Further, please get the lesions on your face examined. Was the first diagnosis of Eczema made by a dermatologist?

Keep us posted.

Best regards
