red bumps on fingers

For the last 20 years I have gotten small red bumps on the sides of my fingers.  They don't blister.  They start out as one or two and then I might get a few more and they seem to cluster up on only the sides of my fingers.  They are not itchy but they are sore to the touch when you run your finger over them.  It feels like you have a splinter.  They are slightly raised and red in color.  They will stay for varying lengths of time and then dry up and go away.  Usually not for more than a couple of weeks.  I may go for months and months and not get them and then all of a sudden they show up.  I have been to various dermatologists over the years and they seem puzzled and never seem to know what they are.

I was wondering, it seems that most people are saying they get these on their right hand. Is that because it is most people's dominate hand?

Also, obviously there are few posts on here that don't relate to what most of us have, where it's not itchy, and only on the sides of knucles of the hand.

For me it could be stress cause I've had some tonsillitis thing the past week and basically haven't been able to eat. What is interesting though is that I was recently put on antibiotics for it like others. But related to other people like the Aussie, my doctor now thinks it might be a yeast infection in my throat (thrush) so it could be related to that instead. I'm not sure. I'm going to go try the Burts Bees stuff if the opintments I have dont do it.

I get these same type of red bumps on the tops and sides of my fingers, and on my elbows and kneecaps. I have noticed a correlation with the sun and when the bumps come. They sound the same as the bumps that are being described here- red, uncomfortable to the touch, dry. I had none of these over the winter. Now that there has been sun these last few beautiful days, some popped up again. I am guessing it is just some kind of allergic reaction to the sun, but I want to make sure it is not a sign of something more serious. Other than being annoying and having a sore on my hands, they do not bother me too much. I'd be interested if anyone else has noticed a correlation to the sun?

I have also had these little red finger bumps for the past several years, and am surprised to see how many other people have the same problem. I've never thought it was anything serious, just a mild annoyance, but it still bugs me that no one seems to know what it is.

The only thing that seems to have any correlation with these bumps, is that it's stress-related. I also found it interesting, as Kooops said, that a lot of people are saying that it mainly appears on their right hand. Mine is also mainly on my right hand, which makes me think that it's not from touching something, because that would likely affect both hands. Unless it's from touching a pen or pencil, or something along those lines, but then I use pens and pencils all the time, and the bumps only appear every few months or so. I just find it interesting that it seems to be predominant on one hand over the other.

I used to think that it was related to my hands sweating, but I don't think that's it. I wish somebody could figure out what this is.
