sebacious cysts

my boyfriend aged 21 has had little bumps in his scrotum and penis throughout 6 years..but has been too shy to go to a doctor. they r found in the scrotum as wel as the penis, from the base to halfway upwards. they are skin coloured and no itching (well maybe a little)
when he first told it to me,v suggested to use ketoconazole 2% cream thinking its a fungal infection, but it showed no difference..tried a stronger one but yet da same.. i then told him to change his soap to a mild baby soap and he did it but yet it persisted.. so v cut off FUNGAL INFECTIONS..he was never sexually active,(not even now) so v cut off STD's too.. and my search continued and finally found sumthn matching with it.. sebacious cysts wich are NOT infected! can this happen on the penis too? and in large amounts,i mean he has many of them around the penis and on scrotum.. is it possible that they are sebacious cysts? and for almost SIX years? please help,he is very down mentally because of this... :(

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Well the bumps that you have noticed are called Fordyce spots. They are small, painless, raised, pale or white spots or bumps 1 to 3 mm in diameter that may appear on the shaft of the penis or on scrotum. The spots are a form of ectopic sebaceous gland, and are not known to be associated with any disease or illness and are of cosmetic concern only. They are non-infectious and a natural occurrence on the body.

They should be got removed only for cosmetic reasons as they are normally found on the penis. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
