splinter (glass) removal from bottom of my foot

Hi,
I've stepped on broken glass approximately 2.5 weeks ago. The wound healed by only using an antibiotic cream but whenever I step on rigid surface like stone or ceramic I feel something is inside and it hurts so much. The wound is almost healed no inflammation signs. Today doctor open my wound  using a laser cutter to see if there is a splinter remaining under my skin. She couldn't find anything. I was wondering shouldn't doctor first use an imagine method like sonography or CT scan to locate the foreign body and then get it out ? and why after 3 weeks with a simple wound I couldn't walk because of pain ? internal inflammation ?
