Wallstreet,
Thanks for you comment. I have had vitiligo since I can remember and I wonder if the length of time you have it makes a difference. I am getting narrow band UVB treatment with a topical cream mixed by an apothecary (not exactly sure what the mixure is). I have a wonderful Dr. but am not seeing any results. Maybe I just need to be more patient. Good luck with your journey as well!
Hey kygirl,
I was diagnosed with vitiligo 8 months ago at age 40 and freaked out like most. There is a way to help it get better. It is a slow process, but worth it. I am seeing a dermatologist who was very informative. A doctor who is dismissive of your problem is a sign that you should leave his/her office right away after asking for a referral to a doctor who actually cares. These guys get paid to help. not to dismiss your concerns.
I was given more info than I knew there was about vitiligo on day one by my dermatologist and then he prescribed topicals til one worked ( a steriod, elidel, then protopic) in addition to NARROW BAND UVB light treatments 2 to 3 times per week. I had spots all over my face, neck and legs to start with. It took two months for me to start seeing results and then in month three and four the spots started to get smaller after filling in with dots. The spots on my face, neck, under arms are gone. The sucky part is that I get new spots in different places that will have to go through the process ,but the old spots have not come back so I figure that once my body goes through all the outbreaks and the last set of spots are done I should be ok.( Fingers crossed)
The new spots that appear are small and go away faster than the first set so I see constant progress. If you can get a doctor to give you PROTOPIC and NARROW BAND UVB light therapy and if your lucky you should see improvement. Be patient. I have talked to numerous people that this worked or is working for. Good luck.
