vulvur pain and shrinkage...HELP!!!!

Hi there,
For about 3 months now, i have been experiencing intense pain around my vulva. the pain is sometimes like burning, and at other times its more like throbbing or stabbing pain. the pain is not always in the same area, it switched between left and right side. soon after the pain started, i noticed that my vagina bacame very dry with very little or no discharge throughout the day. If there was discharge, then it would be very thick and clumpy. It's hard to explain but I have recently noticed that my vulva is shrinking, it seems to be getting thinner. there is no rash or discoloration aorund the area. I am 21 years of age,

I have been to 2 doctors complainning of the pain, but they have not been able to diagnose it as of yet. I have been tested twice for infections, both came out negative. I am not sexually active.

Can anyone please tell me what this could be and what i should do about the condition because im very worried that the doctors cant seem to figure it out.

Hello,
I can understand the suffering that you are going through and I feel that the symptoms are due to vaginitis or thick skin vulvitis. Thick skin vulval dystrophy can occur at any age and is characterized by dry, reddened areas in the vulva, itchy vulva, shiny skin around the vulva, pain during sex and shrinkage of the labia and vaginal opening.

Diagnosis is confirmed by cervical swabs and swab of the vaginal discharge. Till then keep the area dry, wear cotton clothes and don’t use any cosmetics or scented toiletries. A cream containing cortisone may also be used to relieve some of the irritation but use it after a gynecologist’s evaluation.
I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing. Kind regards.
