You're in my thoughts. I know if feels like your world is caving in right now. People will not judge you poorly for your diabetes. After you've had some time to digest this blow you will discover that you are not alone. When you are ready, log onto http://juvenation.org and look for your local chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Association. You will be able to hook up with other people your age, who live in your area, who are facing the same things your facing. For now speak with someone you trust, your parents, a friend, a teacher...go outside and yell at the world, run, cry but please do not hurt yourself. Your life is not over, it's just changing.
This is a lot to handle at 15 yrs old. I'll tell you what I have learned lately. My son is 11 yrs old and had lots of lesions on his brain and spine about 5 weeks ago. My gosh he was so sick. Couldn't walk, talk or urinate. I thought he might die. My heart was absolutely broke but then they told us it was probably MS. I don't like him having to live with all of the things that can come with MS but atleast it can be cured. He will have to give up things but he can live this beautiful life. There are so many things life has to offer than foods. They make all kinds of candy (sugar free) that really are good. I love the chocolate that is sugar free. Lots of people drink sugar free pop and they don't have diabetes ( I being one of them). You have your whole life ahead of you and if you control your diabetes now you have a great life ahead. You are just going to be a healthier eater than others. N one whether diabetic or not should really be having all the sugar stuff. It really isn't all that great for you. Be proud of yourself and be a role model for others. You will probably meet many diabetics in your life and the information you know and can teach to others may save someone's life. You will have so much experience to share with another that may be confused. See if there are other teens out there that are confused and frusterated having diabetes. But, I am so glad you have something you can teach others about and that you will be here to change the world! The world needs you and all the wisdom you have and will have in the future. Say you become a nurse. You will know so much more than if someone just learns it from a book. You know it first hand and that is the best experience you can have and pass on to others. See how many people you can help on the diabetic forum and see if you learn and teach others. Please talk to your parent or doctor about how you are truly feeling. I tell my son there are so many things ahead of you, don't let your illness win. Let everyone know how you can't allow this bump in the road to get you down. You can be whatever you want to be diabetis or not! This can be fixed with diet and medication. Many diseases can't be fixed as hard as you try. Love life, it's waiting for you to change the world!
I'm 33 and have had diabetes since I was six. My diabetes doesn't bother me and never has but I guess since I got it when I was young I wasn't accustomed to eating sweats etc and everything became a routine easily. I also cut myself when I was a teenager however I don't think it was related to my diabetes. You should see a mental health professional it helps alot trust me...
It may not feel like anything helps but you can get through this, I did.
It's ok to be different, I'm sure you're a beautiful person, every human is unique and beautiful. Find people in your life that you can talk to and feel comfortable with. Parents, cousins, aunts, friends, teachers... Find someone you feel comfortable with and let them know how you are feeling. When I was younger and having problems, doing art meditation and yoga also helped me alot, it destressed me and helped me feel better. You have a long life ahead of you and you have the power within you to make it a great life.
