My story dates back to 2009 or so. Prior to experiencing the hypoglycemic symptoms which affect me to this day, I will give you some background information on my life in the years 2008-2009. This was a moment of my life where I recall experiencing water retention, severe fatigue, and rapid weight loss at one point. Furthermore, I experienced bone (or joint pain), and what appeared to be shrinking bone mass from my clavicle region and hip bones, although this appeared to stop shortly after. The real trouble began when I felt 'zoned out' one day in a university lecture. I had a meal before this including a sugary beverage. My symptoms included a faster heart rate, confusion, foggy thinking, impaired judgement, and many others. From personal research I correlated my symptoms with hypoglycemia. At times, it was difficult to even walk in the university halls without feeling extremely faint. Social interactions were difficult as well as I felt irritable and highly anxious. Visual disturbances also sufficed, especially in the night time when I would see halos around lights and have difficulties navigating through the darkness. During the next several years, I tried to maintain a low-sugar diet in order to alleviate symptoms and this did help. These hypoglycemic symptoms have nonetheless remained over the years (although far less severe), and the doctors I have seen claim that everything is normal. This may have something to do with hypoglycemic unawareness, but please correct me if I am wrong. Random blood glucose checks have given normal readings. Kidney, liver, and thyroid tests appear to be normal. Electrolytes, iron, C-reactive protein, hemoglobin, all blood counts, and cholesterol are normal. However, in earlier blood tests dating back to 2010 or 2011, there were lower phosphate levels in my blood. Also, recent blood tests show vitamin B-12 levels on the lower side (244 pmol/L). Please note that I am quite skinny as well, weighing around 135 lbs and standing 5'10, aged 26 and male. Other notable symptoms that I should mention are prominent bulging veins near my temples, and changes to my facial skin tone as well as eyes that appear to be fatigued. I would appreciate your advice and recommendations as how to proceed with this condition. Do you recommend I see an endocrinologist? Thank you very much for your time.
