are stomach problems common for adults with type 1 diabetes?

My husband is 35yrs old and has had type 1 diabetes since childhood.  Every other month he has severe nausea and stomach pains until he vomits, these episodes last 2-3 days.  Any advice on how to prevent this or treat when it happens?

I believe that yes, stomach problems are common for those of us who have had diabetes for a long time.  Autonomic neuropathy causes those symptoms...he needs to talk to the doctor.  I take Reglan for my episodes.  It works, but it makes me sleepy.

Hope this helps.

Hi

I would have him discuss this with his doctor I know ketones can cause similar symptoms but his doctor is the best person to advise him if its related to his diabetes
