Please Help

I am really trying to get some information and no one really replies when I post them. My husband is 25 years old and in the past few years has been excessively tired and if he is up during the day takes a nap between four and six usually. He is exhausted and will fall asleep in the middle of anything. He gets the shakes quite a bit and lately I've been noticing his feet and hands will be so red compared to the rest of him. He also has an uncle who has type one diabetes and has gone blind due to it. The doctor yesterday suggested that it might be diabetes. So he's testing a few times a day and once we get insurance (hopefully asap) is going to run a bunch of tests. My question is: how did you know you had diabetes? what were your symptoms? what is normal for the results of these lancet test strips?

I researched a little more yesterday and I'm now thinking it may be hypoglycemia just by some of the numbers that have been coming up in his blood. But I'm not sure what normal numbers are

I also had some "white areas" below my eyes. (my skin were extra dry there)

My uncle (my father's brother) have had diabetes type 1 since he was 18, so our entire family have know about our increased risks of getting diabetes. Some months before I turned 8, my mother and father became aware of that I waked on the middle of almost every night, and went to the bathroom to pee. I also had some "white areas". They brought me to the doctor, and he found out I had diabetes.

You could also check if his breath smells like acetone - if it does his blood sugar is above 18. People without diabetes should have a blood sugar between 4 and 8.
