Gastroparesis

This is a condition supposedly found in about 50% of diabetics.  It's where there is nerve damage ranging from mild to severe in the stomach, and the impulses that process the food through the stomach are slowed.  Severe cases must be put on liquid diets, etc.

Ok, I have none of the symptoms (fullness upon eating, nausea, etc.) but my doctor wants me to have a test done via x-ray to monitor movement of food through the stomach.

Doctor thinks that high nightime glucose levels are due to food being digested after humalog has worn off.

I don't have crazy numbers very often, but always seems to happen when I log for doctor (sound familiar?) or during PMS week.  But, hopefully to rule this condition out, I'm having the test next week.  Will let everyone know the results.

Does anyone on this forum have the actual condition?  And, did you have any warning signs?  I rarely hear this mentioned in the field of diabetes, so was shocked that 50% show some form of this.

I've been having stomach problems since I was diagnosed with diebetes 11 years ago. I too have had tests done, including a couple of endoscopies, sonograms, as well as the stomach emptying test, which you are about to have. However, although I feel I have the symptoms of gastroparesis (nausea, full stomach, etc.) all these tests ruled it out and I still don't know why I feel the way I feel. In any case, it is true that many diabetics suffer from some type of gastrointestinal problem but it's not always as easy to diagnose. Hope everything works out for you. Take care!

Human Pin Cushion,

Although I am not a medical doctor I am a type 1 diabetic.  I had never recently heard of this until I started having symtoms myself.  I did some research and was tested by my endocrinologist.  Since then I have been keeping my levels more stable, eating easier food to digest in the evening and take prevacid and the condition has stabilized.
