I think given the fact he has only recently had bowel surgey, has been having antibiotics and Heartguard, this is definitely a case where you need to take advice from your vet. Five days is actually a long time for a dog to have diarrhea. One consequence to this could be your dog runs the risk of becoming dehydrated, so do make sure he has access to fresh water and encourage him to have a drink at least once a day (if he's one of the many dogs that don't tend to drink water at all, give him just one salted potato crisp, which will dry his mouth and encourage him to his water bowl very quickly). Dehydration can also occur due to the Science dog food (which I assume is the dry formula). For dogs with sensitive stomaches, I prefer cooked chicken or white fish mixed with boiled white rice or pasta. This not only provides essential minerals and nutrients, but is a 'wet' food too, thus avoiding any consequential dehydration. Tony
Hi Cass......First, Have you had a fecal run on your guy? If not, collect a stool sample and take it to your Vet to have it checked for parasites....You don't have to take your dog.......You need to rule parasites out first....
Next, You said he has always had problems holding his bowels.....What does that mean?
Does he suffer from any allergies that your aware of?
How old is this guy? What have you fed him before the Science Diet? If it too, is a low quality food from a grocery store or discount center, then I suspect his food is the culprit.......Let me know, Karla
