Can Rymadyl be stopped without weaing off?

My 15 year old dog has been taking rymadyl half pill morning, other half night.  He had been limping back leg and vet put him on this.  I am now reading very scary things about this medicine.  My question is he has one pill left.  Can I just quit this cold turkey?  I plan to call vet in the morning to see what if any alternatives there are.  He doesn't limp all the time now, but have noticed his appetite not as good as it was.
