Can a dog get a urinary tract infection

Hey I have a rat terrier dog who is 4 years old and her name is Prissy and she is housetrained, but last night I carried her out to pee and she did but only 10 minutes after we got back in she peed on the floor which is unusual she never does that, and today she will not get down and play, she has only wanted to lay in the bed, and she been crying off and on all day and she will look at me like she trying to tell me something, and she will not eat anything. she hasnt wanted  to eat for the last 3 days. any suggestions on could this be a urinary tract infection.  I am going to call the dr. tomorrow if she isnt better.

Glad you took her in.  Did he do blood work to check the pancreas or suggest a specific diet for either?
Hope she is better soon.

Thanks for the information, I carried her to the vet and he said it wasnt a UTI, the vet said that she peed on the floor in the house because of someone shooting a gun because I did hear someone shoot a gun, but I got to looking at her stomach trying to figure out why she was crying and I seen a big abscess thing looked like a big blister near her place where she had her spay surgery so I got the vet to look at that and he drained it and cut it, this is the 3rd time he has had to do this.  And he said if it comes back again he is going to have to go in and do surgery and clean the area out inside.  He said he also thought she had inflammatory bowel disease and pancreatic insufficiency, waiting for the tests to come back.  He gave her a antibiotic shot and a pain shot and a B12 shot, he said the B12 shot will help her appetite and if she does have the pancreatic insufficiency it will help that.  He also told me to give her some greek yogurt, I actually did get her to eat some yogurt and a little dog food,  Now she is sleeping at the moment.  I sure hope she gets better soon, I hate seeing her like this.

Yes, this very much could be a UTI.....Though UTIs are painful, it's possible that she has developed a stone which is extremely painful & very common........The crying  and not wanting to move indicate PAIN.....

I'm concerned about her not eating for this long.....Will she drink? If not, 3 days with no liquid is dangerous.....Offer her some low/no salt chicken broth.....She MUST be kept hydrated till she sees her Vet.....Children's Pedilyte is wonderful, too......They make popsicles if she will eat one!

If you can collect a urine sample, it would be easier & less expensive than to have the Vet do it.....Put the urine in a clean, sterile jar & refrigerate if you are going to keep it more than 12 hours.....Take it with you to the Vet.....

Please come back & Let us know what happens.... good luck....Karla
