biopsy or steroids decision in the morning?

I had to take my 12 year old dog to the emergency room a week ago, she was severely lethargic and not walking or sitting, called the vet they said to keep an eye on her, few hours later she had a gran mal seizure.her blood sugar was 30 after we gave her honey at home and the 20 min it took us to get to the hospital.they are been working on getting her levels to the appropriate "normal", I have to decide to do a liver biopsy or do steroids  If I do steroids then I can't do a liver biopsy, If I do the biopsy then she has the recovery and may or may not help.  it is suppose to tell up her prognosis, if the steroids will help or if there is a different liver medication she needs or a cocktail of liver medication she needs.  or that nothing will help.  there is always the possibility that she won't wake up from the anesthesia too.  It could also tell us if the antibiotics that she is on now is what she needs she just needs more time, which then would be up to her to start eating to turn the corner.  this is the hardest decision I have ever made, if anyone has any experience with this I wold love to hear it.

You have a complicated situation and not one I am qualified to give much help, but:  I believe steroids are temporary and usually very effective in the short run.

On just a "practical" basis (with empathy, of course) I think my decision would be driven by the quality of life and length of life extension that may be possible. These are the things we have to address for ourselves and human loved ones too.   In a simple form: if elaborate and risky procedures do not offer at least the potential for years of reasonable health I'd opt for steroids if they could give a few months of reasonable life extension.

Sorry if I don't understand, but let you know your post is being read and "felt".  These are difficult decisions and one has to try first to remove the emotions and give the decision and pet the benefit of full consideration of what the pet gets and goes through.
