Dog Problem

Hi everyone... I have a really embarrassing problem and I really dont know what to do about it. I am male and quite young. My family breed dogs for a living so we have quite a few male dogs. We breed Irish Wolfhounds so they are quite big. A couple of times now they have mistaken me for a girl dog or something and done what they are trained to do. I'm really embarrassed about it and don't really want people knowing this has happened, but I don't want it to happen again. What should I do? Also, is it dangerous? Could I catch anything from it?

Yes, they are knocking me to the floor and they are doing what they are trained to do. I have tried shouting at them but they don't stop.

When you say, they are going way beyond that, what exactly do you mean? What are they doing? Are they aggressively attacking you and knocking you to the floor? When they try this you need to say loudly and sternly, NO, DOWN, hopefully after a couple of times this should stop their advances.

I think you have misunderstood my meaning. I know that male dogs will hump legs and things, but they are going way beyond that.

It isnt really "dangerous" unless they are pushing you over, biting or otherwise being agressive about it. I dont belive there are any health effects on your part.

I have yet to meet an unfixed male dog without similar issues. The most succesful thing ive seen is just making it very clear that it is not acceptable behaviour. While the male dogs may feel like thats what he is trained to do, it isnt outragiously hard to teach dogs to treat humans differently. It is the same as teaching a puppy that while it can wrestle with other dogs (kindly), it is not acceptable to bite or mouth humans.

I dont reccomend teaching them this in an agressive manner, just make it a  "matter of fact" type of thing, no explination/big event/screaming, just clearly correct the behavior, wait for the response you want, and then praise them. Positive reinfocement is always the best approach.

Good luck.
