I have a 4 year old maltese/yorkie mix, spayed female, named Teddy.
In the last year, she has become very picky about drinking water. She actually doesn't drink much at all. I have had her to the vet 3x this past year because she has gotten dehydrated and needs subcutaneous fluid injections.
I've tried putting chicken or beef broth in the water. I've tried with ice cubes and without. I've tried children's pediolyte for electrolytes. I've tried bottled water. Nothing seems to peak her interest. She does prefer super cold water from the refrigerator and on occasion if she see's us getting water from the fridge she is more likely to drink it rather than if I gather the water and put it down for her and she hasn't seen me get it. Weird, I know. But this doesn't always work with her.
This morning I was so desperate for her to take a drink that I put about a teaspoon of already made Lemonade in her bowl with cold water and she did at least attempt to drink some. Not much though.
There are 3 other dogs in the house and they drink from 1 shared bowl in the kitchen and each have their own water bowl in their rooms they occupy. Teddy has her own bowl in her room and I put it in her crate when we leave for the day. She doesn't drink from the other dogs' bowls.
Any suggestions ? Ideas ? What else can I do to entice her to drink ?
Thanks :)
