14 year old cocker throwing up

We have a 14 year cocker spaniel who started eating very little then nothing in the last 2 weeks and she tries to poop but nothing comes out.  We took her to the vet and they gave her a shot to try to help with digestion and told us to switch to soft food because the hard food may be to hard for the teeth that she has. We bought the soft food and she chowed it down for the past 2 days and rallied her spirits were better and she had a little pep in her step.  Last night she started throwing up and has continued through the night and this morning.  It is clear, she will not eat or drink now and tried again to poop but nothing.  I am worried about her blood sugar level getting to low with her losing so much fluid. We called the vet this morning but have not heard back from him yet.  Any help would be appreciated.

If your vet hasn't done so already, Please request that some blood work be done. Have her kidney and liver functions tested.
Best wishes... Connie

Constant vomiting & not being able to poop sounds like a blockage to me.....If so, it's an emergency......Please let us know what you find out & good luck.....Karla

Hi. There are far too many possibilities with the symptoms you have described, so I don't want to try second-guessing. It would be worth trying to get some fluids in her though, even if she won't take food right now. You could try her with some chicken or beef broth (low sodium type). If you can't find the broth, try some chicken or beef bullion, which will at least get some fluids in her.

Canned dog food is better than dry dog food, particularly if a dog isn't drinking. Canned dog food has about 80% water, so it's often an easy way of rehydrating a dog that hasn't been drinking properly.

Obviously, you really do need to get to the vet as soon as possible. Ask the vet to do a complete blood panel test. If she still hasn't taken any fluids by tomorrow, ask the vet to give her some IV-Fluids, just to keep her hydrated.

Hope this helps.
