When you say rotten potatoes, do you mean raw or cooked? And was there any green on them? Or were they just 'off'.The green on potatoes is very poisonous and he would need the vet NOW if he had eaten that. It would be an emergency.
My dog got 9nto compost pike and ate the rotten patatoes and has been vomiting sticky flem. All evening. I picked up water, to see if vomiting will stop, for a couple of hours. Her abdominal area is very tight. She lwajed some urine that had a pink tinge to it. I dont have the funds to take her to night vet. Any suggestions?

Very good, glad to hear it, and you are very welcome. - Blu
I went to the vet this morning. Had an xray done to make sure there wasn't any obstructions in case he had gotten into anything else in the garbage. No obstructions. May have arthritis in the back which may be causing some of his pain. His stomach was empty. The dr. injected fluids and antinausea medicine. His blood sugar was also high, so that was probably causing some discomfort, too. Thanks for your response and help. Lynn
Okay, canine diabetes puts a whole new spin on this, as you said, you don't want his blood sugar to get too low. This worries me. I think you should see your vet on this one. - Blu
Thanks. He did throw up a couple times and seemed to feel better. We did feed him some because he is diabetic and had his insulin shot, so I don't want his blood sugar to go low. He seems like he's uncomfortable again, though.
No, do not give him ANYTHING to eat for 24 hours. Water only. This will allow his system to clear itself of the 'junk' before attempting regular dog food. I know this because I worked with a vet for 8 years, and belly aches were ALWAYS fasted for 24 hours, then watched for vomiting after beginning food the next day. Of course, if you do this and see no improvement, go see your vet.
