Water is the best drink in the world really. I don't think I prefer any other drink (but like mine sparkling!) Dogs are happy with water. Don't use milk. They don't need juices, and never ever should have any sodas as they mostly contain caffeine, and can contain artificial sweeteners which can be dangerous for dogs.
There are different schools of thought when it comes to raw meat. I feel it is natural, but you have to be very careful about what KINDS of raw meat. ie; never pork, or chicken raw! Raw fish can cause problems in dogs too. And introducing a new diet should be done very gradually. But if you google "dogs raw food diet" you will get a lot of information. I'm afraid I am not an expert on this though.
Some dogs don't do so well on it. It depends.
That said, my dog, who can on occasion have a bit of a sensitive digestion (since she had Parvo when she was much younger) -does well if I give her a bit of raw, lean, minced (ground) steak now and again.
As for other 'human' foods...dogs can have some, but you have to be very careful, as many foods good for us can be dangerous for dogs. It's quite a study!
You will definitely be safe (unless your dog has food allergies or happens to be sensitive to these) with foods like sweet potato, ordinary potatoes, carrots, cabbage, spinach, apple (no seeds!) plain boiled meats or fish, pasta, rice, occasionally a little wholemeal bread toasted. Don't add seasonings, butter, salt or fats, and steer clear of any form of sweeteners. So it means cooking these things for the dog separately, and not giving 'table scraps'
It might look boring for us, but dogs are quite content with plain steamed or boiled food without seasonings.
However, as their dietary requirements are so different from ours, it might be best to find a very high quality ready-prepared dog food, with all the vitamins etc in it that they need, and make sure this forms the main menu, with any 'treats' (veggies etc) added only as extras in the meal.
i do the same with my dog so i dont see a problem with it! he gets his dog food and i give him treats here and there! The biggest thing i know my mom has told me the vet said is NO PORK WHAT SO EVER! Chicken is fine fish is ok beef so so not as much be careful and pork NO their stomachs cant take it! I dont know about drinks though i dont give mine anything but water i havent asked my mom if she knows! she has all Poms so she usually gives me good advice but i wouldnt think theyd be able to drink much more!
There's nothing wrong with some (unseasoned) chicken stock, -that is the water strained off after chicken and chicken bones have been boiled. At room temperature it's a good drink especially if they refuse water sometimes, or are not feeling very well. When it gets very cold, or has been refrigerated, this water turns to jelly, and is very nutritious for dogs
I have a list from my vet of human foods that are healthy for dogs , when I can find it , I will post it for u . For now , the two foods that I do remember , and give to my 2 Yorkies 3-4 days a weekare eggs & raw carrots . I usually boil the eggs , chop them up , and add them to their dog food ... they love it !! Also , I use raw carrots as treats ... they go CRAZY over them .. they help to clean their teeth , & also aid in blood circulation to their goms & promote healthy gums .
Forgot to tell u : if my dogs r having vomiting , I add pedialyte to their water to prevent dehydration. Also , if they r having diarrhea , vomiting , the vet told me to give them boiled chicken ( no seasoning ) , and mix it in w/ white rice - instead of their dog food for a few days . Also , when one of my dogs had to have a few teeth pulled ( he is 10 years old ) I added chicken broth to his regular food to soften it & he loved it ! As soon as I find my list of human foods - it also includes the best doggie foods & treats -I will post it . As I mentioned the eggs , I can tell such a difference in their skin & coats . NO dry skin at all , & their coats r as shiny as my own hair !!
That would be really helpful if you could post a list of foods both that dogs CAN eat, and those that are toxic. Thank you. I'm sure it will make things a lot clearer for everyone. That's a very good idea.
Thank you all for your advice. it has been very helpful. finally people who understand my question. Looking forward for that list redhed!
Well, I have a German Sheppard and I deal with his vomiting problem for long time. I change his dog food for long time, until I decide cook for him. I do everyday, he don't vomiting anymore and looks really happy. I made the same food for him everyday (2 cup whole grain rice ,1 lb peas and carrots cook with one glove garlic and in the George Foreman I make 3 thigh and 3 chicken legs). I feed him twice a day. And for snack we love peanut butter.
