Vet said to break open those vitamin E capsules and rub it into his coat..which he absolutely loves...rolls over and I can imagine his thoughts..ohhhhhhhhh that feels good, right there, over a little..geeeez..then to comb his coat and he loves that just as much...oh what we do for our pets...have a great day
He is part coon, part chocolate lab and I swear has hound in him the way he howls at the mail people..he hates water except to drink so it is hard to bath him without a wrestling match so to speak..I resorted to the dry shampoo..maybe that is the problem..he is not thinning any where..so i guess we will just "play it by ear" and keep an eye on him. Thanks for all the insight
We have a 20 pound rescue Westie, now with us a bit over two years. He continues to have to battle dermatitis (Yeast) which makes his fur/hair very light behind his ears and on his belly area - black skin, and in the ears. In any case, while I don't notice any hair blowing around (unless I look at the risers on the stair case, or corners at the floor, I can say my rug (upright) vacuum picks up a hand full (I have big hands) of hair any time I run it for a few minutes, e.g,., vacuum the living room rug about 20x30 feet. My upright vacuum was purchased because it was rated very high at pet hair pick up and it is "bagless" and has a see through dust container. I can see the hair building as I vacuum.
Other than the thin hair areas, he coat is beautful but produces lots of hair. This has been unchanged in the 2 years we've cared for this "pup".
Nice to hear you have a rescue! What breed is it? What condition was the dog in when you got it?
Dogs shed a lot. Most house dogs will shed some year round as compared to those more exposed to climate changes.
I assume the dog has been bathed. You can bath the dog and use a blow dryer, if tolerated, and that will loosen up a lot of the dead undercoat, then give a good brushing.
Often dogs from rescue, and not sure where you got the dog from, can be in poor condition and had poor diets. I suggest you feed a good quality food with some Omega 3, or supplement.
It will take some time but once the dog is healthy inside and out, you should notice a decrease in the shedding.
Remember it is Summer and dogs shed a lot to get rid of Winter coats.
The rubbing on bushes probably just feels good or the dog thinks it is scent marking.
Two words of advice, brush and vacuum. :-)
