Dog puke white foam - help!

Last night my 7 lb yorkie mix started acting sick a hour or so after eating. She was hunched over, swollen belly, crying, puked white foam, all the symptoms of bloat. I was getting ready to take her to the late night emergency vet until she puked up one last time and suddenly she was her happy self again. She was a little lethargic last night, but that is not entirely out if character for her at night. This morning she is eating, drinking and playing like all is well. Should I worry? Vet visits can be so expensive if nothing ends up being wrong. However, I really don't want to put her life at risk. I've been watching her so closely all morning, I think I'm the sick one now.

Not the best news but glad you got a diagnosis.  This may be a one time occur acne or be chronic.  I woul not feed a diet with more than 10 percent fat.  Try a food with chicken and rice, fish and potato, fish and rice.  And I would not feed rawhides, bully sticks, etc.

Thanks all for all if your help! Went to the vet this week and it looks like she has minor pancreatitis. The vet suggests a daily antacid so you were right on track!

Farn....This still sounds like a digestive issue to me.....First, Margots correct...The raw hides may be the problem, but since you say it's gone on for years & everything else you describe, I'm leaning towards chronic constipation....It's actually more common than people think about...IMO, it's a result of dogs being fed only dry food which is not what nature intended.....Moisture is the key!......Not only for constipation, but for all organ health....

My suggestion would be to feed a wet meal for one of her meals each day....Add some fiber..My favorite is canned pure pumpkin...Her size needs 1/2-1tsp. in each meal....Do not feed any raw hide, it makes things worse by clogging the system up!

Next: Just as a precaution in case you don't know.....The food your feeding was recalled in May....Although all was suppose to be pulled from shelves, I don't trust anybody when it comes to profits....Even though that was months ago, there are still many consumer complaints about this food making dogs ill.....Also, if you had a bag of the bad and have a small dog, you may still be feeding out of a bag that was recalled.....Just wanted to give you a heads up...

Here's a link about your food...Yes, it's a good food, but there will also be responses in the thread about complaints.....Here it is:

The white foam is probably stomach acid......As in Acid reflux.....Let me know what you think, Karla

Glad to hear she is no worse.  Regarding the rawhide chews, watch when she has them.  If it gets down to a small size, toss it.  If she chews it and a chunk is dangling, rip or cut that off and toss it.  These chews can cause obstructions.
I give my dogs bully sticks at times. Again, when they get small, I toss them.
You can feed "raw" beef marrow bones.  When they start to get dry, miss them,  I used to have the butcher cut some to the size I wanted and would just keep them in the freezer.

She eats 2 small meals each day unless she is being snobby and skips a meal (occasionally she just won't eat but by the next meal she is fine). For treats she usually only gets a pork and beef hide chew (petco brand). I don't think she had one yesterday at all. Her poop looked normal today, she does have very very small poops (twice today). I've always assumed that it was normal considering her size.

Yes, I agree...It doesn't sound like Bloat to me.....However, it does sound as if it's a digestive system issue of some kind......Either, she ate too much at one meal (Tiny dogs need at least 2 small meals a day), she's having trouble with the particular food after being on it for months, constipation, ate something else that didn't agree w/her, etc. Could be any number of things.....

Has she pooped today? What does it look like?
Does she get any treats? Can you list the names? That would help....

Let me know any thing else you can think of.....Again, please include treats!   Karla

Her normal amount of Kirkland super premium chicken rice and vegetable dry dog food. She has been eating this for months with no problems. She is a picky eater and this food has been the only one that was good quality and that she would actually eat. I searched the whole house for something she may have gotten into that made her sick but no success. It's my understanding that dogs with bloat do not just "get better" so based on her current energy level, it must not be that? Right?

Morning.......What are you feeding her & how much? Was anything new added for the meal last night? Something she may not normally get? Let me know, Karla
