My dog needs surgery

My 10 year old beagle has had anal gland infections throughout his life and a tooth infection for about 6 months.
I finally changed vets because my vet's medications werent doing much.

The vet i went to today already gave me a quote for surgery. It includes all the meds, anasthesia, blood work for anal gland flushing and dental extraction and cleaning.

Altogether it comes to $950 plus tax (Canadian). I am a student so this is REALLY expensive, not to mention that this clinic doesnt do payment plans. So I'm using every last dollar of my savings and im not sure if i should do it.

I mean he has had these infections for a long time and it hasn't gotten better or worse. And I also am not sure if the price im quoted is ripping me off or is it good?

I want my old vet to also give me a quote but they said i have to book an appt (that's going to be more money for consultation).

What should i do, im so stressed?

Here are several links to sites that provide financial assistance to those who can prove they need it to pay pet medical bills.  Maybe one of these will be able to help you.     http://www.animalfriendsrescue.org/financialassistance.html
