Pet Health Question

I just found a pitbull that has been in a horrible fight and has deep, open wounds; the worst of which is one of his paw pads. I can't afford to take him to the vet and do not want to take him to a shelter for fear they will put him down. What can I do? PLEASE HELP! Any suggestions you have will be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!

My corgi mix has a greasy spot on his back distal from his left shoulder, right in the middle of his back. Like if he was a horse, it would be where the saddle goes.
It doesn't smell, and it doesn't bother him. And it won't wash off, even with Dawn.
This has been an issue for years.
Dexter has always been fighting Lyme disease. We get the Lyme to go away, then it comes back in a year or two.
I have always thought that the oily spot must be coming from a gland or something.
Please give me your thoughts on what it is and ho to get rid of it. Remember, it doesn't smell or bother Dexter. It's just a little grossto pet him there.

There is really nothing that you can do at home for a dog that is this badly injured.  If he has been in a fight he probably has many puncture wounds since dog fangs create punctures, and these types of wounds get infected at the drop of a hat, so he will, at the very LEAST, need to have these wounds professionally cleaned out and have an antibiotic prescribed for him to prevent them from becoming infected.  While it is true that most local shelters will euthanize pit bulls who are brought in, you might try contacting pit bull rescue in your area and explaining the situation to them.  Perhaps they can take him off your hands and help him.  In any case, he DOES need to be seen by a vet, and while I know you are trying to spare his life, there is such a high chance that his wounds will become infected that you really are not doing him any favors by keeping him and not being able to take him to a vet.

Where do you live?  You don't need to be specific, just the nearest major city to you will be sufficient.  If you can give me this information, I can provide you with the names of a Pit Bull rescue group(s) near you.
