What are possible causes, what treatments are available?

My 10 year old F border collie, Sadie Marie, had significant firm swelling of the neck, directly under the jaw. I feel like I would have noticed this before, but earlier that week she had been gagging a little. My mother’s dog had been vomiting and I assumed she got the big from her aunt olive. however she had not thrown up, no loss of appetite (at all) and no weight loss from her check up 3months ago. In fact she gained a pound. I also noticed that week that Sadie had chipped her front upper tooth significantly. She often likes to chew on the base of our yards telephone pole (and other trees) trying to shred away the bark in hopes of finally getting a squirrel. My vet was on vacation so we took her to the person filling in. They said it was most likely a rapid tumor due to the placement and firmness that it was not a good outcome. I requested that se still aspirate the mass. She cane back and said much to her surprise, she did not see any cancerous markers but did see puss and bacteria. She said it’s probably still caused by a lymphnomic rumor. She’s currently on truprofin and amoxicillin trihydrate and clavulanate potassium tablets (250mg 2x daily) for one week. I can not tell yet if the swelling has gone down and am still worried that she may have a pice if split wood in her throat. Has anyone experienced anything like this and got a firm answer? My vet isn’t back for a week and waiting for the second opinion has me going crazy with worry. Today I’m noticing the swelling shifted mostly to her left upper neck and left lower jaw. I bought her the raw fresh food and am mixing it with pumpkin and water. She’s eating it up with no problems at all. Thank you for your time.

Bless your heart. Perhaps I shouldn't have even responded since I don't have anything to offer in the way of answers. I'm just waiting for answers on my baby, so I know you are nervous, worried, and heartbroken just as I am. So, while I don't have an answer for you, I can offer my support. I will be keeping your boy in my prayers alongside my prayers for mine. Too, I pray God will give you peace concerning his condition. I hope you get wonderful news very soon with a fabulous outcome. God bless you.
