LOL!! Love your name. Used to catch those when I was a kid.
Anyway, this is called PICA (you can look it up on the Internet). It can be causes by possible mineral deficiency. Are you feeding a good quality food? Does the dog do this any place it is or just in certain areas in particular? If so, there may be something in or on the dirt that is appealing to the dog. (cat urine and feces is popular). aHem.........
Could just be out of boredom and/or behavioral. You might try giving the dog something else to chew on such as a large, raw knuckle marrow bone (I used to get them at the butcher and have them cut to a larger size). Maybe try a Kong you can stuff with kibble, peanut butter, cheese, etc.
If it continues, a Vet check and some blood work may be in order but I bet it's either environmental or behavioral.
Hello & welcome....IMO, dirt eating is a result of a Vitamin/Mineral deficiency....They are trying to obtain the nutrients from the soil.......What do you feed your Boston? He may need a higher quality food.....Karla
