Chimera, my 7 year old boxer, has not been eating for over a week. We took her to the vet about 3 weeks ago and $1000 later, we were still pretty clueless as what to do with her. From the ultra-sound, they said her liver was inlarged and her gallbladder seamed to be "sluggish". She was jaundice and they said it was either hepatitis, liver cancer, or lymphomia (sp?). We were not able to have a biopsy because she is not clotting blood by herself. We are not able to afford the next step in medical care ($3000+!) for her, and if we could, we were told there is no guarantee that her quality of life would improve. The doctor put her on anitbiotics, steroids, and anti-nausea medication. She seemed to have more energy for the next couple of days, and was eating her food and moving around more. Then she stopped the wet food we were giving her, which she used to think was a treat! She will eat some treats now, but only out of our hand, and then sometimes she will still spit them out. Before she stopped eating, we were also giving her supplements such as milk thistle, burdock root, and alpha lipoic acid. She still wags her little stubby tail a lot, so I don't think she is in pain; just tired and skin and bones! Im hoping someone might have heard of something like this before and has any ideas that might help. Thank you! xoxoxo me and Chi
