dry skin

our new pup minnie has REALLY dry skin and is always scratching. she's a german shepherd/husky mix...since we just got her 2 days ago we haven't bought any doggy shampoo yet. i was wondering if anyone knew of any good shampoos for dry doggy skin that could help relieve her so the poor dear isn't always itchy.

i've been doing the oil thing...she's still itching but i must say....her coat is SUPER shiny. so we'll keep doing that but we're going to try the oatmeal shampoo when we go to buy it on wednesday.

we are switching her foods. she was given kibbles n bits at her last home (she's only 6 months old) so dh is going out to buy puppy chow tonight. i also make sure she drinks TONS of water. and it's changed frequently. (i think of it this way...if I wouldn't drink dirty water why would i expect my pets to drink dirty water?)

i'm going to try the olive oil thing tonight. (i mentioned it to hubby and he said his parents actually put olive oil in their german shepherds food twice a day)

She could also be allergic to the food she is eating.  When you bathe her be sure to rinse her really good.

the last "owner" (i'll use the term loosely for those awful people) claimed to use an oatmeal shampoo on her (they claimed a lot of things) but she's still scratching. i think we're going to give the oatmeal a try.

i never heard of olive oil for dry skin. I'll try that at her next feeding.

thanks guys!

They make oatmeal shampoos for dogs that may help.
