The white liquid was Panacur, for Giardia.
He's a bit better, the vet didn't want to see him unless he was acting sick or the diarrhea was profuse.
Which its not. Its just annoyingly loose at this point. So I'll keep on doing what I'm doing until furthur notice.
Well, hows the little fella now, any better yet??? The white med could be an antibiotic...
lets us know how your coming along...
Thanks! I'll go look at it right now.
Found it. It's titled "Giardia and possibly something else?" posted Jan. 10, 2008 on the Ask A Vet Forum. She did give some good advice on things to try for the diarhea like plain yogurt and 1/4 tsp Metamucil, also some types of foods to try if you want to go and look at it. Hope this helps at all until you can talk to her yourself.
Take care.
Thanks!
I tried, but I've asked her a lot of questions and I don't want to block anyone else from asking, and besides, the forum had reached its limit.
I'm still waiting on our vet to call back.
Hey Peekawho, I'm sorry you're going through this. I had to go through this last fall with three cats so I feel for ya! I was fostering a cat with kittens and she passed on Giardia to my other two cats. So I had three cats with diarhea, not fun! It's hard to say where he could have caught it. My vet said they can even get it from another animal at the vet hospital. Isn't that nice? Be prepared. It could take quite awhile to work it's way through his system. It took a couple of months in our house. I thought it would never end!
Did you talk to the vet here? If you look back in the files you could probably find a post I posted to her way back about the Giardia. She had some good advice for me. I hope Steve feels better real soon.
Take care,
April
He got his Sentinal dose to take care of the hookworms, Albon for the coccidia, and some white liquid (forgetting the name) for the giardia (a 3 day treatment). It was not amoxicillin, I know that.
He was fine until last night, sigh. I'm boiling chicken and rice as we speak. The vets secretary isn't sure if the vet will want to see him, or "just" see his poo, so I have to wait for her to call back.
Sounds like he may be getting sick from all the anti-biotics! catch 22,,,,,ya know???
Mistake...lol...I can't spell today, I BOIL the rice, drain, serve rice water, if they don't drink it, I syringe it...have a good day!!
Yep, it can be a mess...did he give pup amoxicillin? Thats seems to work the best for my Chi's when we go thru the gardia or have intestinal issues..
Then I pull up food, and bowl rice, drain, and give rice water alternated w/mild )not red) gatorade, feed some real quality soft dog food, give "pectin" vet can prescribe, and a little bite of cottage cheese, as soon as I see a good stool, we start blending the soft w/hard and switch over completely to hard...it takes intestines on dogs a lot longer to get back on track, and I keep the dog on amoxi antibiotic/it helps the bacteria or infection tremendously...
Gardia is contagious to others, they might show later, and humans can get a runny, cramping day of it from just cleaning it up/even if your sanitary...its crazy...
I took my chi's to vet recently for routine immunizations, came home and we went thru running stinchy stools for days, vet say::::::whatever::::::so I took matters in my own hands and did just exactly what I told you, and now we have pretty LOL stools again..
Hope you and yours prevail and all turns out okay, keep the site posted, give hugs to the babies from Texas:o)
