My brother is a 32-year-old with Down Syndrome. He has recently suddenly had an issue with eating certain things, taking showers, and wiping his eyes. The food thing is new whereas the shower and the eye touching issues were issues from 15 or so years ago. He started not eating certain things, pointing at his head and eyes as if the reason he's not able to eat those things comes from those two parts of his body. He's never had a problem eating anything before. We pretty much have a handle on that though by only giving him food that we know he'll eat or in a form he accepts such as sandwiches and burritos. The biggest issues are the shower and eye problems which go hand in hand due to both thins being about his eyes. He flips out and we end up having to manhandle him which we all hate. He used to take showers on his own, but now he won't even get under the water and he never liked having his eyes touched but had built up a tolerance to it, but now that is completely gone. I want to get him goggles for the shower, but I'm not sure what to do about his eyes because they are getting really bad and quite frankly gross. I don't know what's going on with him and how to help him. What can we do to better understand this behavior and how should we handle it.
