Binge eating on sugar causing excessive sweating and heart to beat fast

When I was a little younger in college (age 22 or so), I would binge on sugar fairly often. After a day of doing this, that night I would typically wake up with my heart racing and I would be very hot and sweating. At that time I was a little overweight (5'7" and 160), but I've since lost about 30 pounds. My question is whether I've caused damage to my heart?

Maybe your symptoms were also due to anxiety.  Something you were trying to mask with the emotional eating.

I often feel quite neurotic about my physical health but I have seen a number of programs on super morbidly obese people and I feel somewhat reassured that it takes a fair bit of neglect and abuse to cause significant damage and that most damage can be reversed with good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle.

Whether you have or haven't caused damaged (and the doctor says you haven't) you can't undo the past.  You can only work with what you have right now.

I hope that helps a little.  If you still have concerns you may like to discuss them with your doctor.
