Yes this is very common due to the size and the fact that it is an Endometrioma. If you have a blood filled cyst that is an indicator of moderate to severe disease and this minimally invasive surgery is something that needs to be done. I would not be scared but if you don't mind can you tell me who will be doing your surgery? I can look to see with some other women to see how they felt with this surgeon etc.
Recovery time is usually around 2 weeks but the first week is the worst so you will need someone to do the lifting of the children for sure and cooking. The first week you will be lying down and light walking. Even after the two weeks just because you are healed on the outside it doesn't mean it will heal right away on the inside as that takes longer to happen so don't rush yourself and try to get someone to take care of the children while you are in recovery. I had someone watch my daughter the first week and she was 4 yrs old. The second week I was more mobile but could not lift her up.
Hi There and Welcome to the Forum-
I believe that this surgery is fairly common. Is your surgeon an endometriosis specialist? Do they plan to excise the endo?
I have stage 4 endo and am about to undergo my second excision surgery. My first was in 2010 and the recovery time was 8-10 weeks. Recovery time is completely dependent on the severity and how much is removed. My entire peritoneum was removed and my ovaries stitched up under my belly button for 1 week so that scar tissue would not form.
After my recovery I was pain and symptom free for 3 years.
If your surgeon is good, then I would relax and just get it done. Complications from endo that is not removed properly are horrendous. It is much worse than the endo itself.
If you want more information on your doctor, and other doctors that perform proper endo excision surgery, Endometriopolus.com will give you a map and breakdown of all the endo surgeons, their ratings, and their specialties.
If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to PM me.
Stay strong...
