Getting a Hystorectomy soon. Question aboout Endometriosis

So, I've been having problems with:

Bloating
Irregular periods
Heavy periods
Very painful periods
Flu like symptoms before/during/after periods
Constant nausea. In fact, in the last month I've thought I had a stomach virus or food poisoning at least 3 times... the ER doctor told me the last time around I wouldn't be getting sick that often... and my mom, who I live with, never seems to catch it.

Never went to a Gynecologist before, so finally went to one. He said I have a Polyp, Adenomyosis, Endometriosis and my ovaries are not where they should be... he thinks they may be stuck on swollen tissue or something like that.

He said I could do injections... but because of my family's history of cancer, because I've suffered for so long, and because I'm at the age where having children would most likely be fruitless (being close to 40 and having Endometriosis makes pregnancy less likely) he said surgery would be the best option for me.

My biggest question... Can all these issues in my Uterus cause constant nausea - flu or food poisoning like symptoms - that pop up randomly out of nowhere? Has anyone had that issue?

Ticked has given you wonderful advice! I too have had a journey like hers...25 years of dealing with this disease and I had a hysterectomy with ovaries removed...but the endo was not excised so I ended up with my organs gluing back together 3 times (once before hysterectomy) twice after...seeing an endometriosis specialist is your best bet and the best thing to take from both of us who have had a very hard time with this disease because of dr.'s who should have referred us to specialists from the start...they could have saved us much suffering, distress and aftermath health issues from our disease being ignored and mismanaged...so please only let an endometriosis specialist help you...just like we would not see our primary do for cancer we'd see an oncologist we should NOT let a gyn do a surgery that takes an endometriosis specialist...good luck! Get to the specialist!

I hope I can help answer some questions for you. I am not a doctor but I am a patient advocate and have lived through this journey for 25 yrs.

I want to first tell you in case you have been misguided that a hysterectomy will NOT cure endo. Many OBGYN's do not have the skill to operate on patients with Endo let alone patients with complex cases in which it sounds like a possibility with what you have posted.

Nausea what one of my worst symptoms for 2 yrs before my surgery along with indigestion and flu like symptoms. I was actually diagnosed with Fibromyalgia 10 yrs before Endo so everything was chalked up to be fibro symptoms.

Adenomyosis will cause uterus contractions as well as Endo.

Injections will do nothing for you unless you have the disease properly excised from everywhere and this is why I think you need to reconsider who you are having your surgery with. I can't express this enough.

I had a frozen pelvis which sounds a lot like the "ovaries not being in the right place" mine were wrapped around my uterus along with everything else in one big ball of adhesions. I also had a 10 cm endometrioma (blood filled cyst), rectovaginal and sigmoid colon endo, bladder endo and the list goes on and it was DEEP. It took 14 yrs to diagnose so the damage was already done for me. My surgeon was a specialist in Endo and one of the top in my province if not Canada. I had a 5 hour surgery in which he removed all the endo from the root (excised) from everywhere. I had so much scar tissue as well that it moved my stomach out of place which also could be why you are having nausea and GI symptoms.

If I can give you any piece of advice today it would be to please reconsider the hysterectomy and see an Endo Specialist. I can give you names to some amazing surgeons that can help you. the only cure for Adeno is a hyster so if that is the way you decide to go I would still recommend an endo surgeon because you need to make sure all the endo is removed completely.

I have a blog with a link in my profile if you are interested in looking around there. I am pretty vocal in the Endo community and I don't hold back with what I have gone though the last 25 yrs and its people like you that remind me why I help and answer these questions because we are no where near where we should be when treating endometriosis. So please feel free to reach out there or if you have any other questions please feel free to ask and if interested in a good surgeon please let me know where abouts you live so I can help you out.

xoxo
