There are many side effects from Lupron and not everyone will get what others get. However I have only known 3 people that have liked lupron and felt that it helped for them. I am in the middle but would never take it again because of the side effects. Hair loss is the least side effect that I have heard of.

Are you on it right now and that is what is happening or is that your worry?

If you are not on it yet and want to try it I would suggest taking the 1 month injection with addback therapy but not the 3 months. Once that is in you its in and at least with the 1 months you know it will end sooner rather than later.

Okay so here are some of the things people said. I knew some of them but these are women that have been on it too and I asked them what they thought.

1)  I haven't had permanent hair loss but its been 3 years since I only did one shot of Lupron and my hair still falls out every day in chunks. I leave a trail of hair everywhere that actually broke two vacuums.  Thankfully my hair is really thick so its not really noticeable but there are plenty of times it comes out in chunks and I cry. Its really bad when I wash my hair.

2) Has her thyroid been tested? And yes, I had loss but it regrew...never as thick, though

3)  Permanent hair loss on my legs, that was nice.
It's taking forever to grow back, it'll be two years since I've been off it in November, it's almost now at the length it was before taking the crap, before it would have taken maybe 10 months to grow, so it's definitely growing a lot slower. it also grew back funny on my head, it's not smooth as it used to be.

4) My hair falls our a lot but it have been told it's from my thyroid

5)  I've always had an issue with my hair falling out but I noticed it significantly increased during Lupron and after they took me off it. I'm lucky that my hair is insanely thick so it's not that big of a deal but its annoying I'm constantly picking up chunks of hair off the floor, drain, rug etc

6)  I suggest talking to a Naturopath about taking Selenium. Best of luck!

7)  stress can also make your hair fall out as well and our bodies are constantly under stress so you may also consider bringing up the hair loss with a therapist if you have one and maybe finding ways to reduce stress like practicing mindfulness (look it up, good stuff)

8) Omg... So the reason why my hair STILL comes out in chunks could be because of Lupron?! I haven't taken it in like 10 years, but my hair used to be MUCH THICKER!

9)  I lost a lot from the top of my head, to the point that you could see a lot of my scalp. Some has grown back (I have tiny baby hairs sticking up everywhere!), but it never came back to the way it was before.

10)  Whoa no one should be on Lupron for more than 6 months at a time. I was on it for 12 and it was way too much. She needs to talk to another specialist and possibly even an endocrinologist at this point. she could be experience significant osteoporosis and decreased ovarian function as well as a host of other issues. Lupron is not good for you.

I hope some of these answers help you :)

you have been on Lupron for years??? Tell me no? Have you had a bone scan done since being on this? The max amount of time is no longer than 9 months before osteoporosis starts to kick in. If I am honest with you I would get off that drug. I am not saying your hair will not grow back because it should however it could take a couple of years to do so depending on how long you have been on it because it can take over a year to fully leave your system and the longer you are on it the longer it will take.

I am going to ask around as I am involved in many groups but please take a look at this link. I know many of the women including myself who has written articles about their experiences with Lupron. Let me get back to you.

Thanks for your responses..

I have been on it for years and I have had many side effects that weren't great, but hair loss is just the cherry on top, you know?

Just wondering if it is permanent or not...

Well, I didn't particularly love Lupron for other reasons, but take heart, it doesn't knock out everyone's hair.  :)

Talk to your doctor and see if there is anything else he or she might prescribe, any substitute to do the same thing.  If not, weigh the pluses and minuses.  Even if you did have hair loss, that is why God made wigs and falls.

Good luck!

Yes, it is a side effect. I guess something like 18% of women have it...
