ticked has given you great words of wisdom! I had ultra sounds that showed nothing the dr. said "you probably don't have it because nothing shows up on the ultrasound" then when he did the laproscopic diagnosis I too was stage 4 DIE (deeply infiltrated endometriosis)...It took me 13 years of trying to figure out what was wrong and dr. to dr. dismissing me... unfortunately because I did not get into a true endometriosis specialist I like Ticked have lost many organs to this disease and my body is forever changed and not in a good way...if I had gotten to an endometriosis specialist right from the start this disease may not have taken so much of my life...7 years after the non-specialist I found one who did my first excision surgery...I still needed one more and am hoping I have beat the disease...but there is no 100% known cure...the closest chance is excision by a true endometriosis specialist! Save yourself time, pain, suffering, money and see an endometriosis specialist from the start so you don't end up where Ticked and I have ended up...it will be worth it, because they are the Dr. who know the disease best...when they did open me up I had all the forms of lesions and they were every where...from my anus to my diaphragm...and this was after they removed my female organs including the ovaries...so we truly want you to have a better outcome...Please only let the best of the best perform surgery on you! Be Strong!
The only way to confirm is through laparoscopic surgery. There are many who have the surgery and are told they do not have endo but in fact they do as most regular OBGYN's do not have the skill/training to identify and remove endometriosis.
Younger girls that have surgery often their endo is clear so to the untrained eye that is how it can be missed too.
I started to have pain after my second period at 13, rectal and bowel pain at 15 and finally diagnosed at 27 with deep infiltrating endo which severely damaged many major organs.
Some women have no symptoms whatsoever and have stage IV and some have severe pain with Stage I. Many women that have no pain are often only diagnosed through an exploratory lap to find out why they are infertile. Again not everyone with endo are infertile.
The more recent studies show that you are born with Endometriosis and that it has been found in fetus, pre-puberty as well as in a small number of males.
I hope this information helps.
it is correct in the only way to truly confirm or deny endometriosis is via a laproscopic incision to have a look inside...there are many theories on endo and when/why we get it...but the most current research is showing it starts before you are even born..embryonic endometriosis has been confirmed which would cancel the 100+ year old Sampson theory...unfortunately this disease is still very misunderstood...so if you have it...definitely see an endometriosis specialist not a regular oby/gyn....
Having endometriosis can give you extremely painful periods.
The only way to find out for sure, the doctor or gynaecologist would refer you to have a laparoscopy to find out for sure.
