Do polyps in the esophagus usually become cancerous?

Greetings. Recently, my 53 year old mother was diagnosed with a large polyps in her esophagus after some dysphagia and rarely some  regurgitation. However, I read somewhere that polyps rarely actually become eshopageal cancer.I would like to ask if someone can reassure that claim or at least send me a document which specifies the different possibilities. My mother is quite worried and If i were to find some proof I could either help her calm down if the cancer is rare or try to prepare myself correctly is the chances of the polyps turning cancerous are notable. I am deeply grateful for your time and attention.
