Double hip replacements.

I have double hip replacements, fibromyalgia, & arthritis. What are some exercises I could do that will not hurt me? The last thing I need is to pop a hip out.

No, right off in your 1st comment you attacked him and I had no idea who or what the heck was going on. I've asked that you not even respond or comment to my post. Please be respesful enough to do that. No one wants to be involved in your bashing.

Folks, I didn't go after Gymdandee.  He and I have been friends on this website for years until the last couple weeks, when he's been suddenly insulting me pretty harshly, such as telling me to get therapy or go on meds.  I didn't mention Gym on here as a criticism in my first response, quite the contrary, I mentioned him as a counterpart to my advice, that maybe people don't get sent to PT for this type of surgery.  Because I've unfortunately been in PT a lot the last few years, you just listen while you're on the table to what everyone else is going through, and they're mostly there to rehab from surgery or to prepare for it.  The bulk of these clinics are owned by orthopedist practices, so that makes sense.  I just wanted to say that my view might not be the one most people have, but that having been to PT a lot, it seemed a good place for the person posting to get help with the question.  I then was attacked very personally by Gym, a guy I consider a friend, and this isn't the first thread this has happened on lately -- it's every one.  I don't know what's happening, I've tried sending PMs to find out, but I think he's blocked me as I can't send him anything that goes through.  We disagree a lot, but until now have had fun doing it.  I honestly don't have a clue what's going on.  But I just want you all to know, that first mention of him was a positive one in that I respect him and wanted the poster to know he had a different experience.  That's how it all started.  Peace.

Listen paxiled all I was doing is asking for some advise and you went off on this person for no reason. All he was doing is offering up some advise and you attacked him. Please do not comment on my post again.

You do realize you're crossing the abuse line and MedHelp will be on you again if you don't figure out what's bothering you.  I haven't said anything to you to elicit any different reaction than the ones we've been exchanging for years, yet here you are insulting me personally on issues you know very well I have but have no bearing on anything I say on here.  I've tried to reach out to you on a PM, but you were just as angry there.  Something is going on with you that isn't the normal you, I don't know what it is, and I'm very worried about you.  As I said on the PM, if you need someone to talk to, you know I'm here, and if you don't and want to stay in this odd state for you you're welcome to do so.  Peace.

And as for fibromyalgia, given we have no idea what causality is and the disorder is just a name given to a range of symptoms, you can do anything you want to do provided you can do it at all.  I've seen remarkable improvement in fibro patients who were sent to the health food stores to get their diets in order and watched as they blossomed by slowly building up their exercise programs as they were able.  Their doctors who sent them had no restrictions on activity other than to take it slowly and don't do what hurts.  But again, professionals do this all the time and know it; you and I don't, and this person has two other significant problems.  Bad hips don't come from nowhere -- they develop from other conditions, sometimes osteoporosis, sometimes sports injuries or other injuries, sometimes from unknown reasons, but you don't know and I don't know all the things that are combining to make this person hurt.  She needs to talk to someone who does.

Gym, why are you losing it so badly?  I really don't get it.  Going to PT isn't going at all -- they start with some massage, some warm up, and formulate your plan the first 2 times.  They see you 2-3 times a week for 4-6 weeks at least, slowly adding exercises and building up difficulty.  I've been several times, and it's always the same.  My wife has been twice, and it's always the same.  You're just too stubborn to want to follow this kind of program, which is fine, nobody says anyone has to do it, but if you follow the program, it takes time, as does any learning of a new thing.  So 2 times isn't going to PT.   And why would you give such specific advice to this poster, who suffers from three significant problems?  Why wouldn't you advise her to see a professional, as I did?  We're not professionals.  What's happened to you recently that has changed you like this?  I'm starting to worry.  Peace.

Again you don't comprehend what you read. I said the doctor said that's all I needed and to go home and do what I stated above. Pax.

stationary bicycle, water therapy,an elliptical.
A stability ball is also good because it provides flexible support as you sit on it to perform some exercises.Also use a stationary bike, water therapy,and elliptical. Try the bands that I posted above.

The right one I had done June of 2014, the left was Feb. of 2015. Did PT with both of them. Was trying to find some kind of other productive excercises that can get me last the fibro and arthritis.

As for Fibro. My wife has it and what I have her using very light resistance bands. You want to warm your muscles first slowly start wit your feet and just rotate your ankles and work your way up till you have warmed all your muscles. also look into doing
Qigong and Tai chi.
It's important to warm the muscles before and after exercise! you can use a heating pad if you want

I know that Gymdandee indicated he's never been sent to physical therapy after his surgeries, but I've often been in physical therapy for non-surgery related problems and almost everyone else there was rehabbing from surgery.  You might ask your orthopedist to recommend one to help you develop a program that won't harm your hips.  Arthritis responds well to movement and not so well to being sedentary.  Fibro is a more difficult bird, as it affects people differently, is a diagnosis based on symptoms and not any known causation, and so it's impossible to know what is helpful or not except to try things and see if they stick.  But nobody on this website is a professional in any of these areas, and I'd think asking one your professionals would be the best way to go to learn.  Remember, if you've been doing nothing, you need to start very slowly in learning what works and what hurts.  Good luck.

This is what I mean Pax. I never said I didn't have PT!! I said after knee replacement I only had PT 2x and my doctor said do bike, walk steps and flex the knees! The day after surgery they wanted to take me for occupational therapy and brought a wheelchair over to take me. I refused to use the    wheelchair and said I will walk using a walker.
So please don't make a statement unless you know what your talking about!!
