I'd say 3-4 bottles. I was a gymnast and I consumed a lot of water. Now my little son had his 1st  child gymnastics leotard and I'm trying to teach him a little and as a trainer I always make kids and adults drink a lot.

I said that because I knew you would supply an answer that was much more detailed than my more practical answer.  There is nothing negative in what I said -- I simply said a more complicated answer is coming.  You interpret anything I say that mentions you as negative even when there's not a negative word in it -- I wanted you to give the poster another notion.  Which you could have done, but instead you went after me with a troll.  It's your personality, Gym, you see negative because you expect to see negativity, and you then respond with a troll.  You never used to do this -- you only started doing this a few months ago -- so something has changed in you, but the more you troll me, the more I'll point out to people that you're a troll.  You used to be funny, now you're mean.  I really don't know why.  What is negative is saying you will supply a more complicated answer?  It says nothing bad about you or your expected answer.  I didn't say, you never answer a question, which is a negative statement.  I didn't say, Gym will post a bad answer.  I said a more complicated answer.  The poster can then have your internet search based generalization to use as a guidepost, and my pragmatic but not detailed answer to use as a counterpoint, rather than just seeing one answer.  Where is the harm or negativity in that?  I don't see it.

Let me add something to be more specific about the actual question at hand.  People who sweat a lot need more water to replenish what they lose than people who don't sweat much.  People need more water in the summer than in the winter, generally.  There are many liquids other than water, including that which is in the foods you eat, and some foods contain more liquid than others.  In other words, people are different, we live in different conditions, so there is no generalization you can get off the internet that is anything more than a general guideline.  Watch your dog, if you have one -- your dog doesn't constantly drink water -- it drinks when it's thirsty.  That's what people are like as an animal, but we now live in artificial civilizations where people are always selling something.  That makes it harder to know what to believe, because we've lost the instinct to just know what to do.  You can always find someone who's more than happy to tell you what to do, but that doesn't make that information correct.  The correct answer is usually, it depends.  As my chemistry teacher used to answer almost all questions, it's all relative.

As usual, Gymdandee is Donald Trumping his way through life.  My answer is the true answer -- drink when you're thirsty.  Your needs are different than Gymdandee's needs.  Gymdandee gives the same advice to everyone, but neither of us is an expert in nutrition.  I did, however, work in a field where I had a lot of contact with nutrition experts, and they differ, but the largest group do not believe there is a set amount of water to drink.  If you ask someone who practices Oriental medicine, they will tell you drinking too much water will drown your kidneys.  If you talk to people in the business of selling bottled water, they will tell you to carry a bottle of water with you at all times and drink constantly, something nobody in history ever thought necessary.  Drink enough to meet your needs, not Gym's needs.  Now, just to say why this post sounds like this, every time I answer a question lately Gym comes on and says I haven't answered the question when he just disagrees with my answer.  You can decide which of us you want to listen to, that's the point of this forum.  Gym wants everyone but him to stop posting.  I don't know why this has happened, he wasn't always like this, and it's something personal I don't know the origin of.  It's obviously not going to stop until he chases me off of posting, which probably won't happen.  So to all, both of us are trying to offer what help we can, but only one of us is constantly trolling the other.  You decide who to listen to.

"Gymdandee will supply the complicated answer"
Pax. You have a problem! Why do you mention me in your posting to answer a question? It's you who wants to have arguments!

The simple answer is, drink when you're thirsty.  If you're suffering cramps and pulls you're probably not drinking enough.  Gymdandee will supply the complicated answer.

You do understand that Paxiled will never give a true answer to the question.
You should be drinking enough that you go to the bathroom about every 2- 3 hours. and your urine is light in color. If it's a dark color your not hydrating enough. You shouldn't be waiting until you'er
thirsty as Paxiled said! Waiting until you have cramps is waiting to long! It can take hours before you realize you're dehydrated.
