ASTIGMATISM IN EYS OF MY KID

Hello Team,

My kid is 6 year old and suddenly started blinking his eyes last year. We though that the same is due to watching excessive TV, Lots of computer and mobile games. We stopped the same and he has improved and stopped blinking.

Last week, he suddenly started blinking again. We took him to a Doctor and he has diagonsed Astigmatism in both eyes. The report dated June 24th, reads as follows :

DILATED REFRACTION  RE +0.25/2.50@40 (6/15), LE -0.25/-2.00@140 (6/12)

The Doctor has advised spectacles.

My Question is it serious Astigmatism ? My son has never complained about headache, eyestrain, fatigue or vision loss.

After test it seems his right eye is more effected then left.

What is treatment ?
Can this be cured ? I heard Bates method can work and sometimes the cornea and eye ball can shape up ?
Is Refrective lasik surgery the solution ?

Please advise, I am worried.

Thanks and regards,

Deepak

I have answered that question. It's not serious in the sense its progressive but you willl need to work with the ophthalmologist to try and get the vision to normal (6/6)

1. Astigmatism is not a disease it is an aspheric cornea.
2. Glasses and contacts don't cure astigmatism they improve the vision by getting rid of astig blurr
3. It looks like with glasses neither eye sees normal. There may be some "refrctive amblyopia" that means that with vision being blurred for a long time the retina is not fully functioning. Wearing glasses often improves that
4. Bates method not effective
5.Lasik is not done until much older usually 18 at minimum
6. Discuss your concerns with they "eye doctor" if you're not comfortable get a second opinion from a pediatric eye MD ophthalmologist.
