Since Aug. of 2010 I wake almost every nmorning with a puffy lower eye lid only on the left side. I have a feeling of a dry spot in my eye and after I tug my lid downward it seems to subside.
I had 2 cataracts and thought this was the cause but had one removed in Sept. of 2010 and the other the following Nov. I did mention this to the eye Dr.not the surgeon and he said I had very dry eyes, the drops he was putting in my eyes were drying very fast and between dry eyes and allergies this was the cause. He told me to use eye drops and gave me samples of genteal.
Last week i woke up with this puffiness and the dry area feeling and had it all day for two days, My husband looked at my eye and said there was a red spot there with a little yellow appearing head, the yellow is gone but still a small spot of red.
I did get the chance to post to the Dr. on this site and he said it sounded like Blephartis (sp) and suggested warm compresses at night and a scrubbing of baby shampoo and water at night.I have been doing this the last few nights and my lid swells from doing it, but seems much better in the A M now. I do have some drainage on my eye lashes in the A M and corners of both eyes. Can this Blephartis act like this and continue day after day? My eye gets blood shot looking at times with the swelling but seems to dissapear as the swelling goes away.
How often can you use eye drops per day? The drops do seem to take the dry feeling away.I am thinking this is allergy related because I sleep on my left side but certainly not sure. My eyes actually squeak when I rub them, but I have not been doing that. I just don't understand why this started all of a sudden and I know you will think I am crazy, but I quit smoking in July of 2010 and one month later started with this.
Any help would be appreciated.

I rub them, I now don't rub them.
