Retnia specialist

We are looking for a retnia specialist that is outstamding in this field.  We are willing to go where ever he, or she may be located.
The background in brief is as follows:
1. cataract surgery that resulted in a tear in the sack that holds the lens with subsequent pieces of the "cortex" (?)
   going into the viterous.
2. Surgery to remove the viterous and insertion of a saline solution.
3. After a brief period, the retnia partially detached requiring surgery.  This surgery consisted of the "buckle" and lazer
   welds to the retnia.
4. Again, after a brief period, the retnia detached again.  In the subsequent surgery a silicone oil was injected.

Her vision was marginal but the surgeon was optimistic.  Unfortunately, her vision deteriated.  As of now, she is basically blind in that eye.  Although it maybe too late, we are not ready to accept this and aare seeking direction.  We would appreciate any and all help.
Thank you

As a verteran of 6 retina surgeries. I can help you with this, even tho I am not an MD.
Dr Hagan on this forum says that retinologists all over the country are excellently trained. You can do a search at www.aao.org. For a small fee, you can also search at castle-connelly for the BEST.

If you want to go BEST retina treatment center: Steiner LA; Emory, Atla; Bascom-Palmer, Miami; Wilmer, PA; Wills, Balt; Massachuesets eye Center, Boston.

Remember that the best place is not necessarily the best DOCTOR.

How long between detachemnts? Is scar tissue the problem, Is there also a pressure concern? Get the exact diagnosis. I suspect it is PVR.

When you consult by telephone with the retina surgeon's offic, a complete diagnosis is very helpful. When you decide on a doctor, you can have the files faxed.
