At my annual opthamology exam, my doctor detected a hole in my right eye but said it was not full thickness and I had caught it early. The only symptom I had was a tiny bit of blurriness...nothing that interfered with daily life. When I got to the retina specialist 3 weeks later she described it as a "tiny full thickness macular hole." My vision was exactly as it was 3 weeks prior. On the day of surgery...still very good vision as before. At my post op appointment the day after surgery she told me it had been a Stage 4 hole. How can that possibly be if my vision had been near perfect before the surgery?? Before the surgery the surgeon had said I would require to be face down for 3 days (difficult for me with neck issues) but that she would use a heavier gas and fill my eye more in case I could not do face down. At the post-op appt. she said she wanted at least a week of face down from me (not possible). I am befuddled at how diagnosis and post op instructions changed without any change in symptoms. Any help understanding this would be appreciated. I have to wonder of I chose the wrong surgeon. (My opthamologist referred me and I trust him completely but now...I don't know.)
