Corneal Abrasion - eye still feels scratchy

I suffered a corneal abrasion on 2/12/2016. I was putting in refresh tear drops and got too close to my left eyeball and poked myself in the eye with the bottle tip. I was treated at the ER and followed up with an ophthalmologist. He said the abrasion has completely healed and my vision has returned to normal (what is was before the incident IMO). I can still feel a scratchy sensation but it is not really bad. It has now been 16 days after the incident. Will this scratchy sensation ever go away? Is this normal? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Corneal abrasions often heal poorly leading to a problem called recurrent corneal erosions. In face studies have shown it takes several months for the cornea to completely repair itself.  Go to my home page and look through my blog journal postings and read the article I wrote about recurrent corneal erosions and you can Google it also.

Suggest you use a lubricating gel in your eye every night like Genteal Gel, Systane Gel,  Refresh Liquigel. Regular artificial tears won't last all night. If it doesn't help after a week try Mure 128 ointment at bedtime. And when you get up put a drop of your favorite artificial tears in the eye.
