Corneal ulcer and dry patches

My friend who is in her mid-twenties was diagnosed with corneal ulcers two weeks ago and with dry patches a few years ago.  (She also had lasik surgery around the age of 20.)  The condition appears to be worsening and she lost her vision temporarily.  She called her doctor who advised her to use prescribed eye drops telling her that her vision would return in 40 minutes.  Now she is on a regimen of antibiotic eye drops to be used hourly, 24 hours a day, for 7 days.  She's worried about her sight and wondering if a second opinion is warranted.  Is there an opthalmologist in western NY that specilizes in the condition or does this sound like the right course of action?  Thank you.
